Aid Application Deadlines
For submission in 2011-2012 (awards for 2012-2013)

NOTE: Applications that have a deadline date “to NELC” are vetted by the department before being sent to the Dean of Students Office. Please be sure you adhere to this internal deadline, not a deadline you might see elsewhere or one mentioned by a student in another department. Information about applications can be found on the Humanities Division Website or the 2012-2013 Humanities Division Fellowship Guide.
All applications should be submitted electronically. Applications due to NELC should be emailed to Adrianne Renberg (arenberg@uchicago.edu); applications due to the Dean of Students in Walker 111 should be emailed to Michael Beetley (mrbeetle@uchicago.edu).
In-residence FLAS (Title VI)
Purpose: provide funding for students studying designated modern foreign languages
Qualifications: Scholastic Residence, US citizen or Permanent Resident
APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO WALKER 111 by January 18, 2012
Stuart Tave-Whiting Teaching Fellowship
Purpose: provide funding for students to teach a course of their own design in the College
Qualifications: ABD by January 31, 2012; one completed, approved dissertation chapter
APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO NELC by JANUARY 11, 2012
Dissertation-year Fellowships
(Whiting, Franke, Harper, Mellon Humanities, Mellon Foundation/UC, Provost, Fallers)
Purpose: encourage completion of dissertation
Qualifications: must be admitted to candidacy by March 29, 2012; must not be beyond ninth year (sixth year for Mellon Foundation/UC, eighth year for Provost, Mellon Humanities, Fallers); one completed, approved dissertation chapter
APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO NELC by Februrary 28, 2012
Dissertation-year Fellowship (Vigneron)
Purpose: provide dissertation-year awards to promising candidates in French language and culture
Qualifications: must be admitted to candidacy by April 13, 2012; one completed, approved dissertation chapter
APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO NELC by APRIL 2, 2012
Honigberg Fellowship for Study in Paris
Purpose: fund twelve months of research in Paris
Qualifications: comprehensive exams completed; approved proposal not necessary but students already admitted to candidacy may apply

Ryerson Fellowship in Archaeology
Purpose: support travel to study excavations and collections overseas
Qualifications: working in Near Eastern archaeology (award given only in the absence of qualified candidates in Greek and Roman archaeology); research trip must begin by May 01, 2013
APPLICATION MUST BE SUBMITTED TO WALKER 111 by MARCH 21, 2012
Hanna Holborn Gray Fellowship
Purpose: encourage completion of dissertation (two-year award, from proposal to submission)
Qualifications: current fourth-year student with course work, language requirements, and comprehensive exams completed by June 15, 2012; recipient must be admitted to candidacy by the end of Summer Quarter to hold the award

CROSS AND RANTZ SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS
Purpose: support students majoring in Egyptology, NW Semitics/ancient Judaica (Hebrew Bible students based in NELC may also apply

Overseas Dissertation Research Grant
Purpose: support for students financing their own dissertation research overseas
Qualifications: Humanities Ph.D. student in Scholastic or Advanced Residence. Admission to candidacy before disbursement of the award. Begin research at location no earlier than the start of Summer Quarter 2012.Complete research at location no later than end of Spring Quarter 2013.

Division of the Humanities Travel Grants
Purpose: support for short-term, research-related travel
Qualifications: Humanities Ph.D. student in Scholastic or Advanced Residence. Admission to candidacy before disbursement of the award. Begin research at location no earlier than the start of Summer Quarter 2012.Complete research at location no later than end of Spring Quarter 2013.
