Please join CMES and UChicagoGRAD via Zoom on Friday, October 16 at 12:00pm CT for a CMES Career Talk on ‘Careers in Literary Translation,’ featuring Annie Janusch (Creative Writing Program, University of Chicago) and Kevin Blankinship (Arabic Program, Brigham Young University; NELC ‘18). Annie and Kevin will discuss their work in literary translation and how to build a career around this vocation, followed by a Q&A. Anne Janusch’s translations include works by Jürgen Goldstein, Wolf Haas, Anja Kampmann, Heinrich von Kleist, and Uwe Tellkamp. She has been the recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Robert Bosch Foundation, and she currently teaches literary translation in the Creative Writing Program at the University of Chicago.

Kevin Blankinship is Assistant Professor of Arabic at Brigham Young University. He is writing a book on the blind author al-Ma`arri and ascetic poetry (zuhdiyyat). His essays and poetry have appeared in The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Times Literary Supplement, and more.
