Ottoman and Turkish Studies

Elif is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago, where she specializes in Ottoman and Turkish Studies. Elif’s dissertation project follows the trajectory of a scholarly family that held the uppermost positions in the Ottoman legal-academic establishment from the eighteenth century until the fall of the Empire. Elif is particularly interested in the economic holdings and financial activities of high-ranking scholars and aims to bring discussions of economic theology into her field of study.
