Welcome back to the spring quarter, and to Persian Circle! We are looking forward to a series of new speakers, with many actually present on campus! We will continue to hold our events as hybrid, so that attendance on zoom is possible.
This week, we welcome UChicago NELC alumnus Prof. Kaveh Hemmat! Kaveh Hemmat is an Associate Professor of Global Studies at Benedictine University. His research focuses on how premodern Islamicate culture envisioned East Asia, and the role played by images of Asia, Europe, and Sub-Saharan Africa in premodern Islamic political thought. He teaches courses in history, global studies, and interdisciplinary seminars on culture and history.
This week, he will be speaking on “Cartoons in Persian.”
Please note: this talk is aimed primarily at (new) learners of Persian. We really encourage Persian language students to come to this talk! You can join us, and our speaker, in person in Pick Hall room 218. Tea and light refreshments will be served.

لطفا این پنجشنبه برای اولین سخنرانی ترم، با استاد کاوه همت، با ما همراه باشید! کاوه همت استاد مطالعات جهانی در دانشگاه بندیکتین است، و او دکترای خود را از دپارتمان NELC شیکاگو اخذ کرد. تمرکز تحقیقات او در رول تصاویر آسیا، اوروپا و آفریقای جنوب صحرا در فلسفه سیاسی عالم اسلامی پیشامدرن است. او دوره هایی در تاریخ و مطالعات جهانی درس می دهد.
عنوان سخنرانی "کارتون در زبان فارسی" می باشد.
سخنرانی استاد همت به خصوص برای شاگردان زبان فارسی مفید خواهد بود. این برنامه به شکل حضوری در اتاق شمارۀ 218 ساختمان "پیک" در دانشگاه شیکاگو برگزار می‌شود، و همچنین به صورت آنلاین از طریق زوم قابل دنبال کردن است.
