Please join us this Thursday, November 18, at 5:00 pm for a talk with our very own Prof. Pouneh Shabani-Jadidi! Pouneh Shabani-Jadidi is Instructional Professor of Persian at the University of Chicago. Before joining us at the University of Chicago, she was Senior Lecturer of Persian Language and Linguistics at McGill University in Canada for 15 years and Faculty Lecturer of Linguistics and Translation at Tehran Azad University for 7 years. She received a Ph.D. in linguistics from the University of Ottawa in 2012 and a Ph.D. in applied linguistics with a focus on translation from Tehran Azad University in 2004.

Prof. Shabani-Jadidi has published books, book chapters, and articles on linguistics as well as translation and Persian language. Some of her publications are Processing Compound Verbs in Persian: A Psycholinguistic Approach to Complex Predicates (Leiden University Press and the University of Chicago Press, 2014) and Translation Metacognitive Strategies (VDM, 2009). She is the co-translator of Ali Shabani’s The Thousand Families (Peter Lang, 2018), Iraj Pezeshkzad’s Hafez in Love (Syracuse University Press, 2021), Simin Daneshvar's Island Of Bewilderment (Syracuse University Press, Forthcoming), and Sohrab Sepehri’s The Eight Books: A Complete English Translation (Brill, 2021). She is the editor of The Routledge Handbook of Second Language Acquisition and Pedagogy of Persian (2020) and co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Persian Linguistics (2018), as well as The Routledge Handbook of Persian Literary Translation (Forthcoming).

The title of her talk is “A Linguistic Perspective on Persian Literary Translation.”
