Robert Marineau

Academic Bio

Robert Marineau is a PhD candidate in Cuneiform Studies, specializing in Hittitology. He is interested in linguistic approaches to literary analysis and their application to the study of ancient Near Eastern, especially Hittite, texts. His dissertation is aimed at discovering linguistic patterns in texts from the ancient capital of the Late Bronze Age Hittite Empire and considering whether aspects of these patterns may be characterized as “poetic.” Foundational to his approach are Discourse Analysis and Information Structure, supplemented by the theories of the linguist and literary theorist Roman Jakobson.
