Tyler is a PhD student with broad interest in the Hebrew Bible and the ancient Near East. Before commencing his program at the University of Chicago, he completed his BA with University Honors in Ancient Near Eastern Studies with an emphasis in Hebrew Bible at Brigham Young University. Tyler’s current research interests are pentateuchal source criticism, including the Documentary Hypothesis, its varied methodological approaches, and its intersections with historical criticism; disability criticism of the Hebrew Bible and ancient Near Eastern literature, with particular emphasis on the impairment of deafness; and pedagogy, with specific focus on the development of resources and teaching strategies to instruct Deaf students in philology, exegesis, and history as pertaining to biblical studies using signed language.
