هذا الأسبوع نتشرف باستضافة نسرين حليزة، التي ستلقي محاضرة بعنوان
العربية السوداء : تأملات في خفاء اللهجات العربية الأفريقية التي توجد في جنوب الصحراء
وُلدت نسرين في الخرطوم السودان، هي وعائلتها (الآن من جنوب السودان) هاجروا إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية كلاجئين في عام 2000. في مايو 2021، تخرجت نسرين من جامعة سيواني: جامعة الجنوب بدرجة في الدراسات الدولية والعالمية ودرجة فرعية في دراسات المرأة. خلال فترة دراستها الجامعية، شاركت نسرين في برنامج المنحة الدراسية للغات الحيوية الذي تديره وزارة الخارجية الأمريكية لدراسة اللغة العربية في المغرب مرتين. بعد وقتها في المغرب في عام 2019، قضت الفصل الدراسي التالي في دراسة إدماج اللاجئين السوريين والمساعدات الإنسانية في الأردن وسويسرا. مستلهمة من تجربتها كامرأة سوداء في المغرب والأردن، وفي وقت لاحق، في مصر، تحلل أطروحتها في الدراسات الجامعية الطرق التي تتداخل بها العنصرية ضد السود مع أشكال أخرى من التمييز تعليق اللاجئين السودانيين في الأردن من الوصول إلى المساعدات الإنسانية والاندماج في المجتمع المضيف
نسرين حاليًا تتابع درجة الماجستير في الدراسات العربية وشهادة في قضايا اللاجئين والهجرة والطوارئ الإنسانية من جامعة جورجتاون. خلال دراستها العليا، تستمر نسرين في استكشاف تاريخ وتطور العنصرية ضد السود في العالم العربي وتأثيرها على اللاجئين وطالبي اللجوء السودانيين من جنوب الصحراء الإفريقية في الشرق الأوسط اليوم. بعد تخرجها في مايو، تأمل نسرين في العمل في مجال التنمية الدولية.
تُرحِّب الندوة العربية بجميع الطلاب من شتّى المستويات بالإضافة إلى كل محبي اللغة العربية. نتمنى أن نراكم قريباً إن شاء الله!

This week it is our pleasure to host Nisrine Hiliza, who will deliver a lecture titled “Black Arabic: Reflections on the Invisibility of African Dialects of Arabic Found South of the Sahara”.
Born in Khartoum, Sudan, Nisrine and her family (now from South Sudan) immigrated to the US as refugees in 2000. In May 2021, she graduated from Sewanee: The University of the South with a degree in International & Global Studies and a minor in Women & Gender Studies. During her undergraduate career, she participated in the US Department of State’s Critical Languages Scholarship Program for the study of Arabic in Morocco twice. After her time in Morocco in 2019, she spent the following semester studying Syrian refugee integration and humanitarian aid in Jordan and Switzerland. Inspired by her experience as a Black woman in Morocco, Jordan, and later, Egypt, her undergraduate thesis analyzes the ways in which anti-blackness intersects with other forms of discrimination to hinder Sudanese refugees in Jordan from accessing humanitarian aid and integrating into their host society.
Nisrine is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Arab Studies and a certificate in Refugees, Migration, and Humanitarian Emergencies from Georgetown University. Through her graduate studies, she has continued exploring the history and development of anti-blackness in the Arab World and its impact on Black Sub-Saharan African refugees and asylum seekers in the region today. Upon graduating in May, Nisrine hopes to find a career in International Development.
