هذا الأسبوع تسرنا جداً استضافة الدكتورة أوريت باشكين، التي ستلقي محاضرة بعنوان :

«فلنقرأ التوراة بالعربية: الشرح العربي-اليهودي للتوراة العبرية في فلسطين»

حصلت الدكتورة باشكين مؤخّراً على جائزة جوجينهايم المرموقة والتي بموجبها تعمل على توثيق تاريخ يهود الشرق الأوسط في العصر الحديث.

تستعين الدكتورة باشكين بالمصادر العربية والعربية-اليهودية لفهم موقف اليهود من السياسات العروبوية والعثمانية في ذلك الوقت من خلال قراءاتهم التوراتية. وقد صدر لها مؤخراً كتابان حول هذا الموضوع: «اليهود والترحال: الترحال والهوية اليهودية» 

وكذلك «الخروج المستحيل: اليهود العراقيون في إسرائيل

تُرحِّب الندوة العربية بجميع الطلاب من شتّى المستويات بالإضافة إلى كل محبي اللغة العربية. نتمنى أن نراكم قريباً إن شاء الله!

This week it is our distinct pleasure to host, in-person, UChicago Professor of Modern Middle Eastern History Orit Bashkin, who will deliver a talk titled “Let’s Read the Torah in Arabic: Arab Jewish Commentary on the Hebrew Bible in Palestine”.

Professor Bashkin received a prestigious Guggenheim Fellowship in 2023 to support her project on the history of Middle Eastern Jews from the early modern to the modern period. Drawing from Arabic, Judeo-Arabic and Hebrew sources, Professor Bashkin’s project will show how Jews remembered and understood Ottoman and Arab politics through contemporary and biblical narratives. Her most recent books include Jews and Journeys: Travel and the Performance of Jewish Identity and Impossible Exodus: Iraqi Jews in Israel.
