هذا الأسبوع نتشرف باستضافة الدكتور أحمد الشمسي، أستاذ الفكر الإسلامي ورئيس قسم دراسات الشرق الأوسط بجامعة شيكاجو، الذي سيلقي محاضرة بعنوان: البحث في مزبلة التراث العربي
تتمحور أبحاث الدكتور الشمسي حول التاريخ الفكري للإسلام، خصوصاً تطوّر التخصصات الإسلامية الكلاسيكية والثقافة العلمية ضمن سياقها التاريخي الأوسع. يتطرق في أبحاثه لمواضيع مثل الشفهية والمعرفة بالقراءة والكتابة، تاريخ الكتاب، ونظرية الشريعة الإسلامية وممارستها
!تُرحِّب الندوة العربية بجميع الطلاب من شتّى المستويات بالإضافة إلى كل محبي اللغة العربية. نتمنى أن نراكم قريباً إن شاء الله

This week we are honored to have an in-person talk from Dr. Ahmed El Shamsy, Professor of Islamic Thought and NELC Department Chair. Dr. El Shamsy’s lecture will be entitled: “Digging through the Refuse of the Arabic Manuscript Tradition”.
Dr. El Shamsy studies the intellectual history of Islam, focusing on the evolution of the classical Islamic disciplines and scholarly culture within their broader historical context. His research addresses themes such as orality and literacy, the history of the book, and the theory and practice of Islamic law.
Arabic Circle is open to students, faculty and community members of all levels in Arabic, as well as anyone interested in the language. We look forward to seeing you! Please feel free to contact us with any questions or feedback.
