Fred Donner has been recognized by the University of Chicago with the Peter B. Ritzma Professorship. This named professorship honors Fred's outstanding scholarship, pedagogy and service to the department, the division and the wider university. This excellence has been instrumental to the success and stature of the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations over the past three decades and more, and we are grateful for the energy and collegiality that Fred has consistently brought to his interaction with colleagues and students, and to his leadership in the work of the Department, the Center for Middle Eastern Studies, and the Oriental Institute.
