Please join us Wednesday, May 1st, at 4:30pm, in Cobb 219 for a presentation by Khatereh Sheibani titled "The Golden Era of Radio in Iran".
Khatereh Sheibani is a scholar, author and curator of Middle Eastern and Iranian cinemas and cultures. She has designed and taught multiple courses on Middle Eastern and Iranian media and culture at York University. Khatereh has a doctorate degree in Comparative Literature and Film Studies from the University of Alberta, Canada. Her book titled The Poetics of Iranian Cinema: Aesthetics, Modernity, and Film after the Revolution was published in November 2011 by I.B.Tauris, UK . She has co-edited two special issues of Iran Namag: A Quarterly of Iranian Studies, on Abbas Kiarostami (University of Toronto Press, 2018) and on Radio Iran (Spring 2024). Khatereh has written more than 20 articles on gender in the Middle East and Iran, modern Persian culture and literature, Iranian cinema and Middle Eastern cinemas in anthologies, books, and journals such as Iranian Studies and Canadian Journal of Film Studies. She has written two novels (in Persian) titled Hotel Iran (in press) and Blue Bird Café (Pegah Press, Toronto, 2022). Khatereh was consulted and interviewed on issues related to Iranian cinema by broadcasting services and journals such as CBC, PRI, and the New York Times.

خاطره شیبانی شاعر، رمان نویس، پژوهش گر و مدرس ادبیات و سینما در دانشگاه یورک در شهر تورنتو است. خاطره دانش آموخته دانشگاه شیراز، دانشگاه تهران و دانشگاه آلبرتا است. پس از دریافت مدرک دکتری ابتدا در دانشگاه آلبرتا و سپس در دانشگاه های گوئلف، ویلفرد لوریه و یورک به تدریس سینما، ادبیات و رسانه مشغول بوده است. وی نویسندۀ کتابی در باره ی سینمای پس از انقلاب است که انتشارات آی بی توریس درماه اوت ۲۰۱۱ در بریتانیا و آمریکای شمالی چاپ و توزیع کرد. در دو شماره ی ایران نامگ، فصلنامه ایران شناسی دانشگاه تورنتو در سالهای ۲۰۱۸ و ۲۰۲۴ ویراستار مهمان بوده و دو ویژه نامه (اولی درباره «عباس کیارستمی» و دومی درباره «رادیو در ایران») را تالیف کرده است. خاطره نویسنده بیش از ۲۰ مقاله پژوهشی به زبان انگلیسی و چند مقاله به زبان فارسی است، در روزنامه و مجله های ادبی فارسی زبان در ایران و کانادا شعر چاپ کرده و دو رمان با نامهای کافه پرنده آبی و هتل ایران را هم به پایان رسانده است.
این برنامه به شکل حضوری در اتاق شمارهٔ ۲۱۹ ساختمان "کاب" در دانشگاه شیکاگو برگزار خواهد شد.
