Please join us this Thursday, January 20, at 5:00 pm CST for our first meeting of the term for a talk by Hamed Yousefi! Hamed Yousefi is a filmmaker and PhD candidate in art history at Northwestern University. He researches interactions between modern art, Islam, and 'erfan (Iranian-Islamic mysticism) in the latter twentieth century. His writings have appeared in numerous publications in English and Persian including e-flux and Herfeh: Honarmand, and in exhibition catalogues by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Grey Art Gallery (NYU), and MAXXI (Rome) amongst others. As a filmmaker, he has made a series of essay-films on the aesthetic history of the Islamic Republic, and, most recently, a feature-length documentary called The Fabulous Life and Time of Ahmad Fardid (with Ali Mirsepassi.)

The title of his talk is “Mysticism and Modern Art in the Second Pahlavi Era.”
